Slavětice Moldavite Locality

Slavětice is a western Moravian moldavite locality whose name must not be confused with Slavice. Keeping those two provenances separate is a basic editorial and collecting requirement.

Regional Context

Within the Třebíč-area distribution, Slavětice belongs to a group of comparatively scarce Moravian occurrences. A precise recovery record is necessary because regional specimens can overlap in color and morphology.

Geological History

Moldavite reached western Moravia after the Ries impact about 14.8 million years ago and was later preserved in sedimentary deposits. Transport distance and burial conditions varied across the region.

Those later processes can round a form, wear an edge or modify surface relief. Weathering may also produce pits and grooves that developed long after atmospheric flight.

Specimen Range

Documented Slavětice material may include compact bodies, rounded forms and fragments with matte to locally sculptured surfaces. No “hedgehog” claim should be made unless the exact stone genuinely displays that morphology.

Continuity of patina helps separate old geological surfaces from recent chips. Every condition statement should be grounded in photographs of all relevant faces.

Color and Transparency

Olive, brown-green and darker tones are compatible with the Moravian range, while thickness controls transmitted brightness. A locality name cannot substitute for a specimen-specific color description.

Documented Provenance

To avoid confusion with Slavice, records should retain correct spelling, the exact photographed stone, dimensions, weight and chain of custody. Any uncertainty should remain visible.

Collector and Research Value

Accurately attributed Slavětice specimens add geographic detail to the Moravian subfield and support comparisons of transport and preservation. Rarity claims should remain secondary to evidence.

Responsible Fieldwork

Field activity requires permission, respect for crops and compliance with Czech law. Protecting the locality includes protecting the accuracy of its name.
