Kojetice Moldavite Locality
Kojetice is a western Moravian moldavite locality associated with the Třebíč–Moravské Budějovice part of the strewn field. Its page now separates regional geological context from claims that must be verified on the individual specimen.
Locality Context
Western Moravia preserves both relatively short-transported occurrences and material reworked into younger sediments. The exact collecting context therefore matters more than a generalized “Moravian look.”
Geological History
Regional moldavites trace back to the Ries impact about 14.8 million years ago. Subsequent burial, slope movement, streams and weathering influenced what survives around Kojetice.
Because transport histories differ, neighboring pieces may show unequal rounding or sculpture. These differences should be observed rather than explained with unsupported certainty.
Material Character
Recorded specimens can include compact bodies, ovals, flattened pieces and irregular fragments. None of those categories is exclusive to Kojetice.
Texture may be matte, shallowly pitted or locally grooved, with edge wear varying by specimen. A natural surface should remain visually coherent unless an old or recent break is clearly identified.
Color and Light
Color can extend from olive green into brown-green Moravian tones. Neutral reflected light and a separate backlit view provide a more honest account than one heavily enhanced image.
Documentary Evidence
Provenance should connect the locality record with matching photographs, dimensions, weight and condition. If the recovery history is indirect, the wording should preserve the chain of custody and its limits.
Scientific and Collector Role
Scientific comparisons benefit from accurately labeled Kojetice material because it adds detail to the western Moravian distribution. Collector desirability follows the quality of the stone and its documentation, not the name alone.
Ethical Collection
Respect for property, field crops and current Czech restrictions is mandatory. Context should be recorded at discovery instead of reconstructed later from memory.
