Oleksovice Moldavite Locality

Oleksovice is a South Moravian moldavite locality in the Znojmo District. Its stones belong to a region where river transport and redeposition often produced forms different from the more sharply sculptured material of some South Bohemian sites.

Regional Setting

Located within the broader Moravian distribution between Třebíč, Znojmo and Brno, Oleksovice represents one of several less productive but scientifically useful occurrences. Find records matter because individual sites can be visually difficult to separate.

Deposits and Transport

On the Znojmo side of the field, moldavites occur in secondary sediments related to older drainage systems. Their impact-glass origin predates the younger deposits into which water later carried them.

Longer movement among resistant sediment grains can soften sculpture and round a body. Chemical alteration may then add shallow pits or crescent-like marks to an already worn surface.

Form and Surface

Rounded stones, ovals, compact pieces and fragments are reasonable descriptive categories for documented Oleksovice material. They are regional tendencies rather than proof of the locality.

Rather than expecting deep “hedgehog” relief, evaluation should consider coherent wear, preserved patina and the relationship between surface and edges. Any modern damage needs direct disclosure.

Color

Olive, brown-green and darker tones occur among Moravian moldavites, while perceived transparency changes with thickness. Each listing should describe the photographed piece without applying a fixed color formula.

Provenance

Documentation should identify the exact specimen, the defensible level of locality precision, dimensions, weight and condition. Market terminology cannot replace that evidence.
