Parýz Moldavite Locality
Within the Dobrkovská Lhotka moldavite area, Parýz is a named collecting site with its own provenance value. This relationship is stated here once so that Parýz is not mistaken for a separate municipality or repeatedly described as an undefined neighboring locality.
Locality Identity
Parýz designates a South Bohemian occurrence in the České Budějovice region and belongs to the broader Czech moldavite strewn field. A precise Parýz attribution should come from a reliable find record, not from surface appearance alone.
Geological Context
About 14.8 million years ago, the Ries impact in present-day Germany produced the natural glass now known as moldavite. The stones recovered in South Bohemia are preserved in sediments that may have been reworked after the original fall.
Long after formation, burial conditions, groundwater and sediment chemistry altered exposed glass surfaces. Those processes can explain pits, grooves, softened zones and differences in lustre without treating every feature as a unique Parýz signature.
Form and Surface Character
Documented pieces attributed to Parýz include irregular, flattened and fragmentary forms, with sculpture ranging from subdued relief to deeper channels. Each specimen needs its own description because transport and preservation vary even within one collecting area.
No single groove pattern, edge shape or degree of gloss proves provenance. Fresh chips and recent breaks should be separated in condition notes from older surfaces carrying continuous patina and weathering.
Color and Transparency
Olive-green and deeper bottle-green tones are consistent with the wider South Bohemian range. Perceived color changes with glass thickness, internal structure, surface condition and lighting, so photographs should include neutral reflected light and, where useful, transmitted light.
Condition and Documentation
Condition records should identify the exact stone, weight, dimensions, locality wording, known find history and any visible recent damage. A certificate supports that record only when it remains linked to matching photographs and specimen data.
Scientific and Collector Relevance
For research and serious collecting, Parýz matters as a narrower provenance within Dobrkovská Lhotka. Keeping that hierarchy clear prevents duplicated locality claims and preserves more useful information than a generic South Bohemian label.
Responsible Field Practice
Responsible recovery requires the landowner’s permission, compliance with Czech law and respect for protected or agricultural ground. Exact find locations should be documented without encouraging unauthorized digging.
