Kordula Moldavite Locality

Kordula is used as a Moravian moldavite locality designation within the broader western and southern Moravian field. Because the name is less standardized in general references, exact provenance wording deserves particular care.

Geographic Framework

Placed within the regional distribution between the Třebíč and Znojmo areas, Kordula should be treated as a find locality rather than a visually defined variety. The defensible level of precision depends on the original record.

Geological Development

The regional glass formed in the Ries impact about 14.8 million years ago. What is recovered today reflects later movement through soils, slopes or fluvial sediments.

Transport can compact the visual impression by rounding edges, and weathering may leave shallow grooves or matte relief. These traits occur elsewhere in Moravia as well.

Describing the Stone

Material attributed to Kordula may include compact, rounded, flattened or fragmentary pieces. Individual outlines should be recorded without inventing a locality-specific “heart” or other preferred form.

Neither surface wear nor sculpture alone identifies origin. A complete assessment checks patina continuity, recent damage, thickness and all visible faces.

Optical Character

Brown-green, olive and darker tones are compatible with the wider Moravian range. True color is best shown with neutral reflected light plus a clearly labeled transmitted-light view.

Documentation

Attribution should remain attached to exact photographs, weight, dimensions, condition and the known path from finder to collection. If an older label is the only evidence, that fact should be stated.

Why the Locality Matters

Its value lies in adding geographic resolution to Moravian collecting when the record is sound. Clear limitations make the information more credible than an exaggerated claim.

Responsible Stewardship

Responsible recovery means permission, minimal disturbance and compliance with current Czech rules. Provenance should be preserved even when access details remain private.
