Krasejovka Moldavite Locality

Krasejovka is a recognized South Bohemian occurrence noted in collector literature for attractive natural sculpture. A careful account, however, describes the locality’s range and avoids presenting one dramatic specimen as typical of every find.

Place in the Strewn Field

South Bohemia contains the most productive part of the Czech moldavite field, with many occurrences preserved in younger sediments. Krasejovka belongs to that regional geological framework.

Formation and Preservation

Like all moldavites, the glass originated with the Ries impact roughly 14.8 million years ago. Its recovery near Krasejovka reflects later sedimentary preservation rather than formation at the find site.

Burial, water chemistry and possible redeposition helped shape the surfaces now visible. These processes can deepen pits, soften edges or leave contrasting matte and glossy zones on different stones.

Morphology

Recorded material includes complete and fragmentary bodies in flattened, elongated and irregular forms. Descriptive listings should identify what is actually visible instead of assigning a fashionable shape name without evidence.

Fine grooves and ridges can make an individual specimen highly attractive, but sculpture is not a stand-alone proof of Krasejovka origin. Continuity of patina and the character of any breaks remain essential condition checks.

Color and Transparency

Green tones may range from lighter olive to deeper bottle green, with transmission controlled largely by thickness and internal structure. Neutral lighting gives a more honest comparison than saturated or strongly edited images.

Evaluation and Records

Assessment should connect locality evidence, dimensions, weight, morphology and damage notes to photographs of the exact stone. A provenance statement is strongest when its limits are explicit.

Collector Significance

Collectors value Krasejovka for well-preserved sculptural examples and for its place in the South Bohemian record. Scientific usefulness comes from documented variation, not from promotional superlatives.

Legal and Ethical Access

Legal recovery requires permission and respect for farmland, protected places and active workings. No locality designation justifies unauthorized excavation.
