Chlum – The South Bohemian Classic

Chlum belongs to the historic South Bohemian Moldavite region connected with ancient Moldavite-bearing sedimentary deposits formed after the Ries impact event approximately 15 million years ago. Moldavites from this area were preserved within sandy, gravelly, and clay-influenced layers that protected the natural impact glass while allowing its surface to evolve over geological time.

The surface sculpture of Chlum Moldavites is the result of long-term natural chemical corrosion within the surrounding sedimentary matrix. Weak natural acids, groundwater chemistry, and mineral-rich sediments gradually etched the glass surface, creating refined relief, grooves, and natural sculptural texture without any artificial treatment.

Fine Chlum specimens are appreciated for their elegant olive-green to bottle-green color transmission, especially when viewed against light. Well-preserved pieces may reveal internal flow structures, natural gas bubbles, and optical depth typical of authentic Czech Moldavite formed during the Ries impact event.
